NP07
A new pharmaceutical product based upon lithium and Aonys, NP07 is a potent mood stabiliser for the treatment of bipolar disporder. Â Current "gold standard" lithium treatment for bipolar disorder requires constant patient monitoring to achieve the balance between therapeutic and undesirable effects. Â Due to difficulties in maintaining this balance, a significant number of patients are unable to maintain satisfactory mood stabilisation.
Lithium
Lithium is the oldest treatment for bipolar disorder currently prescribed. In many ways it remains the best and most effective mood stabilizer available. The American Psychiatric Association and The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) recommend lithium as first line therapy for bipolar disorders. Numerous clinical trials have proven its efficacy for treatment of bipolar disorder. Although lithium is often used during manic episodes, it is also proven to help patients during depressive episodes.
NP07
Aonys enhances cellular delivery of metal ions where the combination of lithium and Aonys provides a low dose buccal formulation of lithium which provides mood control at very low dose (ug/kg). These low doses provide good mood control with no side effects, and hence a significantly larger therapeutic window than that observed with traditional lithium medications.
Status
NP07  will enter into phase I clinical trials in July 2010. Phase IIa clinical trials will be initiated in late 2010. NP07 is manufactured to cGMP quality standards.
