Pr. Serge GauthierMedical studies at Université de Montréal, Neurology residency at McGill University, Research Fellowship at Prof. Theodore L. Sourkes Laboratory, Allen Memorial Institute, Montreal. Clinical investigator and staff neurologist at Montreal Neurological Hospital, then Director of the McGill Centre for Studies in Aging, and Holder of a Research Chair with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and Rx&D program. Tenured Professor in the Departments of Neurology & Neurosurgery, Psychiatry and Medicine at McGill University. Member of the Order of Canada. Contributions to research include the design and implementation of randomized clinical trials to establish the safety and efficacy of cholinesterase inhibitors, memantine and agents possibly modifying the progression of Alzheimer’s disease. Special interests include a consensus approach to the management of dementia at different stages, the ethics of research involving vulnerable people, and primary prevention of aging-related cognitive decline. |

Pr. Guy RouleauOver the last 25 years, Dr. Guy Rouleau and his team have focused on identifying the genes causing several neurological and psychiatric diseases, including autism, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, hereditary neuropathies, epilepsy and schizophrenia, as well as providing a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms that lead to these disease symptoms. Among Dr. Rouleau’s main achievements are his contribution to the identification of dozens of disease-causing genes and his discovery of new mutational mechanisms. Dr. Rouleau has published over 700 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has been quoted more than 50 000 times. He has supervised nearly a hundred students at the Masters, PhD and Post-doctoral levels in addition to receiving numerous awards for his contribution to science and society. |

Pr. Claudio CuelloProfessor Cuello has been trained at the Universities of Buenos Aires (UBA, Argentina), U. C. San Francisco (USA) and Cambridge (England). He held research and academic positions in the Department of Cell Biology at UBA and in the Department of Pharmacology at both Cambridge and Oxford. He is a past Chair of the McGill Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics and presently holds the Charles E. Frosst Merck Chair within the same Department. He is also currently an Associate Member of the Departments of Anatomy and Cell Biology and Neurology and Neurosurgery at McGill University, adjunct Professor of the Scripps Institute (LaJolla) and Visiting Professor at Oxford University. In 2010, Professor Cuello received the Order of Canada. Professor Cuello’s lab is interested in degenerative and regenerative processes in the CNS with particular emphasis on aging and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) related studies. His lab utilizes and develops transgenic animal models presenting features of the AD neuropathology. The research is of a multidisciplinary nature ranging from molecular approaches to whole animal experimentation and with a particular interest in Alzheimer’s Therapeutics. |
Infectious diseases
Pr. Paul LOUBETInfectious disease doctor with the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Department at CHU de Nîmes. Specialized master’s in public health (Institut Pasteur / CNAM) and PhD in epidemiology (Université de Paris). Member of Inserm Unit 1047 “Bacterial virulence and infectious diseases”. His research work is focused primarily on epidemiology, the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory viruses in low respiratory infections, as well as vaccination and antibiotic alternatives for treating infectious diseases. |
Oncology
Pr. Gerald BatistDr. Gerald Batist is the former Chairman of the Department of Oncology at McGill University and Director of the McGill Centre for Translational Research in Cancer. A major award from the Canadian Foundation for Innovation led to the expansion of the Centre and it’s integration into the Segal Cancer Centre at the Jewish General Hospital, which he also directs. Dr. Batist is a clinician-scientist, trained in medical oncology and molecular pharmacology. His work, both in his lab and clinical research focuses on therapeutic resistance. This includes large consortia of biopsy-based clinical trials. In 2014 he co-led a successful application that resulted in the establishment of the Canadian National Centre of Excellence in Personalized Medicine, Exactis Innovations. The core feature is a program to build a massive bio bank and database linked to a prospective longitudinal registry of cancer patients followed throughout the trajectory of their illness, a project called ‘Personalize My Treatment’. In 2016, Dr Batist was appointed Member of the Order of Canada and Knight of the National Order of Quebec. |
